  1. What is my username and password?

Your CANSI username is your identification as a CANSI member - this essentially replaces the membership number which was assigned to you.

CANSI usernames are being mailed out with every renewal email and postal mail based on the contact information available in the National office database from last year. If you have not received any email or postal letter by November 1, please contact the National Office

To determine what your password is, simply select the "Forgot your password?" link on the Login page, enter your username, and then press the "Send Email" button. You should receive an email to the address on record. If you have not received any email within few hours, again please contact the National Office to ensure your email is recorded correctly in the membership database.

  2. I didn't renew my membership last year - How do I become a member again?

We'd like to have you back as a member - All you have to do is renew and your membership will be reinstated. If you are overdue for a refresher, you will be a member in the Associate category.

  3. What is the difference between the types of membership available?

The short answer is that Professional members are certified by CANSI to teach a CANSI lesson without supervision. See Membership Types for more detail.

  4. I'm not a CANSI member - how do I become a member?

You become a CANSI member when you take a Level I course or you can join as an affiliate member by contacting the National Office

  5. I'm not a CANSI member - how do I register for a course?

Find the course that you want to enroll in, and click on Register

To register for a course without being a CANSI member, you must create an account - you can do this from the Login screen which is presented after you click Register.

You will be asked to create a Username which will be your identification as a CANSI member.

  6. What happens if a course that I have registered for is cancelled by CANSI?

If a course is cancelled by CANSI, you will receive a full refund of the registration fees.

The refund will be processed at the end of the season, but will be issued no later than April.

  7. What happens if I am unable to attend a course that I have registered for?

The cancellation policy is set by the region where the course is scheduled. See this course cancellation page for details.

  8. I'm a ski instructor, but not a CANSI member can I register for a higher level course?

    COURSE CHALLENGE POLICY

A skier not meeting the prerequisites for a higher level course may apply to CANSI to be granted equivalency for the prerequisites based on their background. The candidate must first become a current Professional CANSI member, by taking and passing a CANSI Level I course in the same discipline. The application to the higher level course must be made to the course examiner in writing or email at least 3 weeks prior to the close of registration for the course, and must include an on-snow session or video review by a CANSI course conductor at the appropriate level.

Equivalency can be granted for at most one certification level. The candidate must meet all the criteria of the certification level, including an understanding and practice of all CANSI policy/procedure and teaching practices/pedagogy. Exceptional cases will be considered with additional advance notice.

If the course examiner is satisfied that the candidate's background is equivalent to the course prerequisites, the application and the course examiner's recommendation are to be forwarded for approval by the National technical committee for XC Levels III,IV and Telemark Level III. The decision on the application must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the close of registration for the course.

On approval, the candidate will be allowed to register for, and attend the course. All other regular course policies will apply.

  9. I'm a member in another ski instructor organization - can I get an equivalent CANSI certification?

The short answer is no. At this time, CANSI does not have equivalency agreements with other ski instructor organizations. Your experience may allow you to register for a higher level CANSI course - see the Course Challenge Policy.

  10. I renewed as a Professional member but my member card shows Associate?

The difference between Professional and Associate status is the coverage by the CANSI insurance. You are no longer covered by the CANSI insurance because your certification expired. To reinstate your professional status and keep benefiting from the coverage you need to re-certify by taking a refresher or an equivalent course.

  11. Why do I have to enter an email address in my CANSI account?

Email is the preferred way of communicating at CANSI. When you are registered for a course the Course Conductor or the Course Coordinator will send course details or notice of course cancellation to the email address on your file. CANSI official communications are sent by email, so is your member card and the newsletter. For further information please contact National Office at office@cansi.ca or 819-360-6700.

  12. What is the minimum age to take a CANSI course?

You must be 15 years old by the start of the course.
